Photo of the Day 3/16/12, Venice, Italy
Photo of the Day 3/16/12, Venice, Italy
After a 2 week ski journey thru the Northern Italy Dolomites, 4 of us were going to be flying out of Venice back to the states. We stayed the night outside Venice, got up early and travelled into Venice to walk/photograph the streets of Venice. This photograph is very unsusual do the fact that there is no person in it. Venice is busy, busy, busy, it wasn't more than 2 seconds later that this alley was full of people. This photograph can also be found in the Limited Editions Architecture gallery on my website.

Photo of the Day 3/15/12, Ben Johnson skiing chute in the backcountry of Snowbird, UT
In March of 2008 Ben Johnson was seriously injured in a Big Mountain competition. I happen to be the next competitor at the top of the mountain who was about to ski at the time of the injury. Essentially he had broken his spine but was able to retain function of his lower body. After an obviously intensive recovery, this photograph was taken almost a year to the date of his injury. I remember clearly Ben saying at some part of the day that can't do everything he wants to cause he has a metal rod holding his back together right now. So we ended up skiing a chute that neither of us had yet to ski in the backcountry of Snowbird. It was difficult to get to, very steep, and had a middle section that you needed to stepped over...all meaning there is no such thing as falling here. I thought to myself and the end of the chute, "what exactly can't you do Ben?"

Photo of the Day 3/10/12, Mark Tieszen telemark skiing in Northern Italy.
About 4 years ago I was with a group of telemark athletes, photographers, and videographers in the Dolomites of Northern Italy. The Dolomites are an awesome range that have cliff walls thousands of feet high. This photograph was taken trying emphasize the magnitude of these mountains.

Photo of the Day 3/9/12, Chugach Mountains
This photograph was taken looking across the the Turnagain Arm of the Chugach Mountains. The wind calmed slightly right before this photograph was taken which allowed me to get a decent reflection in the water.

New Photo of the Day 3/8/12, pair of owls in Bear Valley.
These 2 young owls made their home in our backyard when living in Bear Valley of Anchorage. This particular day they allowed me to approach them closer than ever, giving me the opportunity to photograph them from about 15 meters.
